Program Description

If man's best friend is his dog, how cool would it be if he were also your doctor? "Dr. Dog," the new animated television series (52x13') based on the hugely popular book by best-selling author Babette Cole, answers this offbeat question, combining irreverent humor, quirky characters, action and adventure, all with a bit of useful medical advice for kids. Dr. Dog is the loyal pet to the Gumboyle family, but incredibly, he is also a brilliant doctor! It's a challenge leading this double life, but Dr. Dog is a dedicated doctor who'll do anything to help those in need - even if it means getting himself into some absurd or perilous situations. Proving laughter is the best medicine, the series also offers interesting health and hygiene facts designed to both engage and educate kids (and sometimes parents!)

Character Descriptions

	DR. DOG Our hero is a phenomenon, and viewed as such by his entourage. In fact, he is the only one in the Gumboyle family endowed with discernment, poise, and good judgement. He is pretty much the head of the household. Poised, yes, but as astonishing as it may seem, there is a side to him which escapes his control: his animal side. He may be a brilliant physician and inventor, but Dr. Dog remains a dog.
	GERTY While Gerty may not always prance around in fairy costume, she does constantly annoy everyone with her non-stop fairy-tale chatter. She tells the wildest, most fabulous, most terrifying stories about herself and her family. She lives and breathes in her own little fantasy world, a land of pixies, magical creatures and with the inevitable prince charming.
	KEV Of all the characters in the Gumboyle household, Kev is the most intelligent. Kev and Dr. Dog are bosom pals. As best friends, they can confide in each other. (Kev is the only truly intelligent Gumboyle.) As a dynamic duo, they foil all Dr. Foyle's dastardly scheming. As a hyperactive kid, Kev just cannot stay out of trouble. Like any boy his age, he can be a real daredevil. Kev can ride anything with wheels - skateboard, roller-skates, or big bike - like nobody's business! And he can also wipe out like nobody's business...
	FIONA Oh, the pain of being Fiona Gumboyle. No one understands her. No one appreciates the supermodel hiding beneath her gawky, freckly, slightly pimply twelve-year-old exterior. No one else knows what it's like to be the only normal member of this really weird family. "I mean, how would you feel if your brother was the future member of a chain gang, your little sister is knocking on peoples' doors looking for some dwarves to put her up for the night, your baby brother was a toxic waste dump, and your dog was, at this very moment, sticking a Popsicle stick down someone's throat to check them for tonsillitis?"
